Halo Igloos is expanding its acclaimed portfolio with the much-anticipated Halo Igloos Riverside Resort, set to open in autumn 2026. Construction is officially underway and fully on track for the grand launch. Located less than a kilometer from the original adults-only Halo Igloos Hillside (known for its intimate glass igloos and aurora-chasing magic), this natural extension responds to surging international demand for family-friendly Arctic escapes.
Nestled in Rovaniemi’s Vikaköngäs area, one of Lapland’s prime Northern Lights vantage points, Riverside promises unparalleled stargazing free from light pollution in an untouched Aurora hotspot. Encircled by pristine wilderness, its 39 brand-new family-sized glass igloos (each 23.5m²) welcome two adults and up to two children, offering sweeping views of the serene Vikaköngäs rapids or dense forest canopy. This thoughtful evolution combines Halo Igloos’ signature coziness with added space for multi-generational adventures, from midnight aurora hunts to riverside campfires.
Two Distinct Experiences, One Proven Concept
The expansion creates options for different traveler needs. The original 26-igloo Hillside resort maintains its romantic, adults-oriented atmosphere, perfect for couples seeking intimate Arctic escapes. Meanwhile, Riverside welcomes families to experience the same premium igloo concept that made Halo famous, now elevated with private wellness in every igloo.
Every Riverside igloo features a heated glass roof for stargazing and northern lights viewing, its own private indoor sauna, and an outdoor warm hot tub for ultimate relaxation under the Arctic sky. Underfloor heating, rain showers, kitchenettes, and carefully curated Scandinavian design complete the experience. Flexible sleeping arrangements include a double bed plus chair bed and additional bed options, ensuring comfortable family stays without compromising the signature Halo experience.
Beyond the igloos, the Riverside expansion introduces a new signature restaurant, a scenic private panoramic sky deck, and an exceptional riverfront sauna complex. Both locations offer Halo’s beloved amenities: half board dining, reindeer encounters, complimentary snowshoe rental, and shuttle service to Rovaniemi and Santa Claus Village.

Halo Sky Odyssey: An exclusive stargazing experience on the private Skydeck, guided by a world-renowned astronomer. Guests dive into cosmic secrets, from the dance of the Northern Lights to distant galaxies.
Halo Husky Ride 5km: An active way to experience the changing Arctic seasons. On this guided hike up Mellavaara hill with energetic huskies, guests are surrounded by vibrant autumn colors (ruska) or the season’s first snow.
Reindeer Forest Walk: An intimate, peaceful nature walk with a local reindeer and a dedicated guide. Guests can feed the reindeer by hand, take photos, and connect deeply with the tranquil Arctic forest.
